Daniel Wedding

September 10, 2011

My cousin married yesterday and I had the pleasure of creating his wedding cake. What a fun and challenging task, I have never, on my own, created a tapered wedding cake. I was quite nervous and have many ideas of how to improve upon this design for the future. Over all, this cake was a hit! The guests loved it and most of all, Matt and his wife, Marissa, loved it! The flavors for this cake included, lemon cake with Strawberry buttercream! YUM! I included two sheet cakes along with this cake, the flavors for the sheet cakes included, Marble cake with butterscotch mousse and Lemon cake with Strawberry mousse.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Daniel!

A Birthday Celebration

Last week my family celebrated my Mother's birthday, even though her birthday was back in July. We have all been very busy and last week was the first time all of us could get together on the same night. It took many email and a lot of back and forth chatting to get this simple dinner planned. I, of course, was asked to make a dessert since, in my brothers words, "...that's what she does best..." So the day of the dinner I had to figure out something yummy and easy to make for my Mom. And of course, since it's for my Mom, it has to be awesome! No skimping on a dessert for my Mother dear.

In my post before this, I referenced a website, www.yourcupofcake.com, which is where I found my inspiration for my Mom's birthday dessert!

NUTELLA CUPCAKES!

Okay, when you hear(or read) NUTELLA CUPCAKES don't you just want to smile? And doesn't your mouth start to water a little bit? Mine sure does! I knew my Mom would LOVE these cups of deliciousness. So Nutella cupcakes were the winner.

Before I post pictures, I need to make a disclaimer. Every time I try a recipe the first time I am always disappointed in the final product, not the taste, but the look. As is the case with these cupcakes, Delicious as they were. After I piped on the buttercream frosting I thought of soooo many ways to make it look better. Ugh. The second time I make a recipe is generally better, so I have to make these again... and SOON!

I hope they still look appetizing, even though, in my husbands word, "they look like they are frosted in turd..." Wow...

I would also like to disclose that I need to learn how to better photograph my edible art... I think my photos always look like they need photoshop or something... maybe I just don't know how to use my camera properly, which is quite possible.

A weekend Wedding in Cottonwood Arizona

About a month ago my husband and I were in Cottonwood, Arizona for my dear friends wedding, which I was a bridesmaid in and also was making the cakes for. Needless to say, a lot of time and preparation went in to their wedding. The time and effort was well worth it, their wedding was so beautiful and a complete success! I am happy today to post a few pictures of the Curry/McCaw wedding cake!

This gorgeous three tier hexagon and square wedding cake was vanilla cake with blueberry buttercream filling, yum! Thank you to the photographer, Trisha, for these beautiful photos!

I Am Determined

Welcome to Lalee Cakes! I decided to change my pastry blog from Pastry Palate to the name I chose, a while ago, for the cake business I hope to run one day. So he is the debut of Lalee cakes! And don't worry, I will decorate the blog soon.
(Below is the first official post!)

Determination? Oh I have it! I am determined to make more cakes this year. I am determined to make more difficult designs. I am determined to learn new techniques and pracice more often. I am determined to be a better pastry chef than I am. Where has this determination come from? I'm not entirely sure. But I know that my artsy side is kicking and screaming to have a turn and I can deny its freedom no more. I have created a "list" this list contains types of cakes and designs that I am going to teach myself to make! FINALLY!

Some of the items on this list include:
- Purse Cake
- Hat box cake
- Animal!
- Teapot
- House replica

Thos are just a few of the designs I am itching to try! The purse cake is scheduled for the weekend of the 4th of July! Whoo hoo! Check back often for cakes galore!
